BUSH & CHENEY CAN BE IMPEACHED &/OR PROSECUTED ON THEIR WAY OUT & EVEN AFTER THEY LEAVE OFFICE
AUSTINITES HAVE NOT BEEN REPRESENTED IN CONGRESS ON IMPEACHMENT
DEMOCRACY FOR 25 SURVEY
2008 Democracy for 25 Survey shows that over 66% of District 25 residents - and over 80% of residents who voted for Representative Lloyd Doggett - want President George W. Bush & Vice President Dick Cheney Impeached.
LLOYD DOGGETT HAS NOT CO-SPONSORED ANY OF THE 3 IMPEACHMENT RESOLUTIONS BEFORE CONGRESS
Rep. Lloyd Doggett has not represented his Austin constituents on impeachment. Rep. John Cornyn & Senator Lamar Smith, of course, are even worse.
HOW TO USE BLANK VOTE TO SEND A MESSAGE TO THE TEXAS REPRESENTATIVES WHO HAVE OPPOSED &/OR NOT TAKEN ANY ACTION ON IMPEACHMENT
THE MOST UP-TO-DATE IMPEACHMENT & JUSTICE NEWS CAN BE FOUND HERE:
"THE PROSECUTION OF GEORGE W. BUSH FOR MURDER"
Famous criminal lawyer & best-selling author Vincent Bugliosi makes the case that Bush is guilty of the murder of 4,000 US soldiers sent to Iraq under false pretenses & outlines a way for a District Attorney anywhere in the U.S. to proceed with getting a conviction.
Charlotte Dennette is running for Attorney general of Vermont and will, together with Bugliosi, proceed with criminal charges against Bush if she is elected.
JUDICIARY COMMITTEE HOLDS HEARING ON "EXECUTIVE POWER & IT'S CONSTITUTIONAL LIMITATIONS" ON JULY 25TH
This hearing was held instead of an Impeachment hearing -- but the word Impeachment was mentioned dozens of times. Almost all the major players were there: Kucinich, Wexler, Holtzman, Fein, Bugliosi, & others. It was supposed to last for 2 hours -- it lasted for six. Conyers said it was the most important hearing that he'd had for the past 6 years. Sheila Jackson-Lee, the representative from Houston waved a copy of the constitution as she argued for impeachment. Representative Lamar Smith kept asking attendees like Cindy Sheehan, members of Code Pink & other D.C. peace activists to quiet down.
Videos of the hearings are here:

Making good on his promise to return to congress with more articles of impeachment if they did not act on his 35 articles of impeachment, on July 10th, Representative Dennis Kucinich introduced another article of impeachment against President Bush -- this one just concerns his misleading the nation into war
Speaker Pelosi, while backtracking from her previous statement that "impeachment is off the table" by encouraging the Judiciary Committee to let Rep. Kucinich make his case -- probably because she is feeling the heat from pro-impeachment candidate Cindy Sheehan -- also stated that the house might have hearings, but would not vote on impeachment -- once again subverting the normal impeachment process, turning it into a "fancy dress ball" as one commentator said.
KUCINICH HITS BUSH WITH 35 ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT
H. RES. 1258 PICKS UP 7 CO-SPONSORS IN 1 MONTH:
LOCAL REPS. SMITH & DOGGETT REMAIN SILENT.
On June 9, 2008, Congressman & hero Dennis Kucinich introduced H. Res. 1258 -- Impeaching George W. Bush, President of the United States, of high crimes and misdemeanors. Kucinich heroically read 35 articles of impeachment against Bush into the congressional record for almost 5 hours. Representative Robert Wexler co-sponsored it immediately. Kucinich referred it to the Judiciary Committee himself & vowed to return with more articles of impeachment & force a vote on it in 1 month if the Judiciary Committee does not act. The democratic leadership, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid & Steny Hoyer say they will not act on it. John Conyers, chair of the Judiciary Committee, has yet to release a statement. Austin Democratic representative Doggett has not co-sponsored the resolution or made any public statement about it yet.

Please support Dennis Kucinich's bid for re-election to the U.S. Senate!
THE GREEN PARTY & THEIR NOMINEE FOR PRESIDENT HAS MADE IMPEACHMENT A CENTRAL ISSUE OF THEIR CAMPAIGN
The selection of two women of color by a major party for president of the United States is truly historic; that the mainstream/corporate media has not covered this speaks volumes.
Please support the Cynthia McKinney's presidential bid & the Green Party! Texas is a red/conservative state (& only went to a democrat, Jimmy Carter, once in the past 20 years) - so you can cast your protest vote - a vote that will support your candidate & the issues you really support & move whoever wins the election that much further to the left - without jeopardizing Obama's chances of winning the election.
NADER/GONZALES HAVE MADE IMPEACHMENT A CENTRAL ISSUE OF THEIR CAMPAIGN
Nader is running as an independent this year & is not the Green Party candidate.
Ralph Nader was one of the first to call for impeachment when he ran for president in 2004.
Matt Gonzales almost become the first Green Party mayor of a major city (San Francisco), getting 47% of the vote in 2003.
Please support Ralph Nader's presidential campaign!
CINDY SHEEHAN IS RUNNING FOR CONGRESS AGAINST NANCY PELOSI ON PRO-IMPEACHMENT PLATFORM
Support Cindy Sheehan's campaign against Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi -- her entire campaign is about the Speaker's unconstitutional stance on impeachment. Nancy Pelosi notoriously said "impeachment is off the table" shortly before her party took control of both the House & Senate in 2006 - dashing the hopes of many who assumed the Democrats would Impeach in addition to ending the war in Iraq. They did neither.
Please support Cindy Sheehan's campaign to represent San Francisco in the House of Representatives.
IT IS *NOT* TOO LATE FOR IMPEACHMENT -- THE PRESIDENT & VICE PRESIDENT CAN BE IMPEACHED &/OR PROSECUTED ON THEIR WAY OUT & EVEN AFTER THEY LEAVE OFFICE
All the the evidence needed to impeach has already been gathered -- impeachment can take as little as an hour in the House of Representatives. During impeachment hearings, the evidence unearthed would be overwhelming & the votes, that the Democrats claim are not there, would surely come. The stage is set, all "We The People" have to do is claim our power & act. Insisting on Impeachment hearings is the most powerful thing Austinites & the American People can do throughout 2008 & 2009.
The democratic leadership, & many Democrats in congress, continue to insist that they are busy with more important business & that impeachment will be a distraction. The truth is that they have accomplished very little since taking control of the House & Senate in the fall of 2006. Holding Impeachment hearings is the most powerful thing that the Congress can do in 2008 & 2009.
Contact your representative, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee John Conyers, Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the constitution, Jerrold Nadler, and all the members of the Judiciary Committee & insist that they must honor their oath to defend the constitution or be held complicit in the crimes of the Bush administration & will, at the very least, be voted out of office. If you want impeachment, if you want justice, if you want answers, if you want major criminals (not just minor criminals) to pay for their crimes, contact them in person, by mail, fax, phone & email at least once a week & demand it http://www.house.gov.
CURRENT AUSTIN IMPEACH PROJECTS
- Visiting, or protesting at, our representatives offices
- Displaying impeachment messages at marches, big events, & out & about in Austin
- Posting posters & distributing flyers with messages about impeachment & the crimes of the Bush administration, since the local media refuses to cover the issue.
- Writing letters to local media: especially the Austin Chronicle, Austin American Statesman, Daily Texan, The Texas Observer, AfterDowningStreet.org, CommonDreams.org reader comments, etc. -- discussing the urgent need for impeachment & exposing local representatives who are blocking it.
The two big reasons on why impeachment is still relevant & important now: The Bush administration is threatening to attack Iran - impeachment would stop that in its tracks.
Just as important, if they are not impeached - a dangerous precedent of unchecked out-of-control presidential power has been set & future presidents could continue or exceed the present abuses. Whoever wins the election he ride in on unprecedented Executive Branch Powers that come with not only being a wartime president -- the war has been funded thru 2009 -- but through the Bush administration's expansion of the powers of the executive branch. He will have expanded executive branch powers as the "floor" with no constitutional checks as the "ceiling."
Poll after poll shows a growing majority of the American people believe Bush & Cheney have abused their powers & are in favor of at least beginning impeachment hearings; Over 90 towns & cities across this country have passed impeachment resolutions; President Bush, citing Executive Privilege, has refused to turn over documents requested by congress -- this is the exact same tactic Nixon used & was about to be impeached for before he resigned; Karl Rove has refused to comply with Congress's subpoena to testify; the attorney general, Michael Mukasey, refuses to enforce congress's contempt citations for Harriet Miers & Josh Bolten regarding the firings of U.S. attorneys scandal; a clear majority of the American people want us out of Iraq; our money is being spent on the war in Iraq -- it has already cost over 500 trillion dollars ($275 million a day) -- instead of here at home; Bush has admitted that he knew about meetings involving Vice President Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, Wolfowitz & Rumsfeld in the White House that detailed the torture techniques to be used on prisoners & approved; he has also admitted that the military has used waterboarding on prisoners – these are direct violations of the Geneva Conventions, international & national law; 9-11-truth people are still demanding a proper investigation of 9-11; many people have called for investigations into election fraud for the 2000 & 2004 presidential elections; this election fraud also threatens to jeopardize the 2008 elections, and on & on. Bush & Cheney should be held accountable for their innumerable high crimes & misdemeanors -- & for their war crimes including illegal war of aggression, torture & indefinite detention. The only way to do that is IMPEACHMENT.
Bush & Cheney's approval ratings are the lowest in U.S. history. Bush's are lower than Nixon's at the time of his resignation. The latest polls show that Bush is indisputably the worst president in U.S. history – his disapproval rating exceeds Nixon’s in lowness & Truman’s in length of time. Bush & Cheney are actually very vulnerable -- now is the time to IMPEACH.
REPRESENTATIVE WEXLER'S IMPEACHMENT DRIVE
In mid-December, Representative Robert Wexler set up a website to measure support for impeaching vice president Cheney. His original goal was 50,000 signatures -- he got 30,000 in 24 hours. Rep. Wexler delivered a letter with 20 co-signers -- 5 of them on the Judiciary Committee - to congress urging them to begin impeachment hearings on January 16th. After Representative Kucinich introduced 35 articles of impeachment against George Bush on June 9th, Representative Wexler - chairman to Barack Obama's Florida campaign - included President Bush along with Dick Cheney in his impeachment drive. 250,000 people have signed this petition so far.
REPRESENTATIVE KUCINICH'S IMPEACHMENT DRIVE AGAINST CHENEY
Representative Kucinich's resolution to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney, H. Res 799 (formerly H. Res 333) currently has 26 co-sponsors.
On November 6, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH & Democratic Presidential candidate) used an item of personal privilege to force the U.S. House of Representatives to vote on H. Res. 333, his resolution to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney. After several rounds of political maneuvering by both the Democratic and Republican establishments, the resolution to impeach was referred to the House Judiciary Committee. The Judiciary Committee, headed by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), is the place where all impeachment actions receive their first hearing in the House. http://kucinich.house.gov/Issues/Issue/?IssueID=3750
CONYERS & THE HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE IS SITTING ON IMPEACHMENT
Conyers introduced his own articles of impeachment against Bush in 2005 & on May 8, 2008 he circulated a letter in Congress threatening impeachment if Bush/Cheney attack Iran. Almost half the democratic members of the House Judiciary Committee are now pro-impeachment. Now is the time for us to inundate the members of the Judiciary Committee, especially Rep. Conyers, with visits, letters, faxes, emails, and phone calls demanding the impeachment and removal from office of Mr. Cheney.
RAMSEY CLARK’S IMPEACHMENT DRIVE
Former U.S. attorney general Ramsey Clark’s petition site for Bush’s impeachment topped a million signatures in April 2008. Tens of thousands of people marched in the freezing cold in March 2007 for his March on the Pentagon.
VOTE GREEN OR INDEPENDENT
Texas is a red/conservative (not a "swing") state, so if you are liberal/progressive, it is highly unlikely that your vote will sway the presidential election one way or the other - so your vote mainly counts to empower the person you vote for &/or as a form of protest. Cynthia McKinney, the Green Party nominee, or independent candidates like Ralph Nader, may be for you if you have given enough chances to non-progressive Democrats who, just like the Republicans, are controlled by giant corporations, have repeatedly funded war & increased the military budget, have funded the Iraq war & the war in Afghanistan, have failed to get us national healthcare at the late date of 2008, have cowered to the Bush administration at every turn, have run away from challenging two fraudulent presidential elections, have accomplished very little not only since regaining control of the House in 2006 but for the past 20 years -- & who have refused to impeach.
THE BEST CANDIDATE YOU WILL NEVER SEE: SCOTT TRIMBLE'S ATTEMPTED RUN AGAINST LLOYD DOGGETT FOR DISCTRICT 25 THWARTED BY UNDEMOCRATIC EXCLUSIONARY TEXAS BALLOT ACCESS LAWS
Scott Trimble - who moderates the Austin Impeach mailing list - was the Green Party candidate running against representative Doggett - for District 25 representative. Scott Trimble, unlike Lloyd Doggett (the current representative for this district), is in favor of impeachment as well as real democracy: true representation. None of the Green Party candidates will be on the ballot this year as Texas required third parties to get a far higher number of signatures than other states. This law is designed to perpetuate the 2-party system by making it extremely difficult for third parties to emerge.
Texas' exclusionary ballot access laws have already been challenged -- & they should & will no doubt be challenged in the future.
Scott Trimble plans to enter graduate school in Political Science and to continue to bring real democracy to Austin & Texas. You can see his ideas & reach him here:
REPRESENTATIVE SMITH IS AGAINST BUSH'S IMPEACHMENT - BUT VOTED TO IMPEACH CLINTON
In February, Representative Lamar Smith, the republican ranking member on the Judiciary Committee, whose district includes part of Austin, & who voted to impeach President Clinton stated, in a letter to a member of Austin Impeach, stated: "At this time, I am unaware of any facts that would warrant impeachment proceedings against the Vice President."
During the hearing on Executive Power & It's Constitutional Limitations in the Judiciary Committee on July 25th, 2008, Representative Smith compared the hearing to a "Book of the Month Club Meeting" & said nothing would come of it.
Visit, write, fax, call & email Representative Lamar & make him feel the heat of his hypocrisy. Then support any candidate better than him & vote him out of office.
REPRESENTATIVE DOGGETT IS AGAINST IMPEACHMENT
Representative Lloyd Doggett (district 25, Democrat) has not signed on to H. Res. 333/799 -- the resolution to impeach Vice President Cheney. Given that a poll last summer showed that 54% of Americans are in favor of impeaching Vice President Cheney & given Austin's liberal leanings, we believe that representative Doggett is not representing Austinites on this issue.
Throughout August of 2007, members of Austin Impeach tried unsuccessfully to get representative to sign on to this resolution & to get a meeting with him. Since then he has repeatedly refused to have a proper meeting with us & has repeatedly refused to take any action whatsoever in favor of impeachment.
He has repeatedly stated that he is concentrating his efforts on ending the war in Iraq & that impeachment is but an unachievable distraction, but seems blind to the fact that ending the war in Iraq obviously cannot be achieved without impeachment & that very little truth can be gotten from this administration without impeachment hearings.
In mid-November of 2007, after three months of getting nowhere with dozens of letters, faxes, phone calls & visits with his staff members, Austin Impeach, collectively, wrote a letter to Rep. Doggett (Democrat, district 25) requesting once again that he sign on to H. Res. 333/799 to impeach Vice President Cheney & that he meet with us. He refused, again, to do either & stated again that he believed pursuing impeachment was a waste of time & energy. Click here to see the letter & part of our history with him. http://austinimpeach.org/node/30
Local poet & Austin Impeach member Gg Re visited Representative Doggett's office in Austin twice & in Washington D.C. four times, meeting once with District Director James Paver & once with Foreign Affairs Secretary Alica Barker-Aguilar, to try to persuade representative Doggett to sign on to the impeachment resolutions in Congress & to meet with Austin Impeach. Instead of getting this, Austin Impeach & Gg were rebuffed, stonewalled & insulted at every turn -- and once even blocked from entering the federal building in Austin with no reason or apology given by representative Doggett or his staff.
